Situation

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), District 4, conducted a Suspension Bridge Cable Investigation, Sampling, Testing, and Strength Assessment of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge West. Caltrans contracted Engineering services needed for the Cable Investigations, including inspection of all suspension cable systems.

Action

Soar Environmental conducted environmental services that were needed for the project, which concerned the presence of red lead paste found on the already-existing suspension cables and metalwork found on the bridge. Soar Environmental prepared an environmental specification concerning the paste, in order to guide the handling and disposing of the paste. 

Results

Due to our specification model, the contractor was directed in handling and disposing of the waste red paste in line with the highest environmental regulations and safety guidelines.
